In 1997, Mary-Ellen and I co-founded a construction business and discovered our passion for designing, being a home draftsman, and constructing homes. That’s when Utah Home Design was born.
Our clients often praised the seamless layout of our homes, likening it to the work of a female designer.
As a General Contractor, I possess extensive knowledge of the construction process, including spaces and proportions, enabling me to create homes that are both aesthetically pleasing and practical for builders. Plus, we are humans and not software.
For many years, Mary-Ellen and I provided design services to numerous clients, but now we specialize solely in home design and drafting.

Draft Your Home
Being a home draftsman, we’ve learned that drafting the perfect design involves a harmonious blend of creativity, functionality, and attention to detail to bring to life a space that exceeds expectations and fulfills the client’s vision.
Brainstorming
Simply bring or email us a sketch or image of the floor plan you desire, along with any photos of exteriors, walls, or rooms that you prefer and let me be your home draftsman. We will then create a house that aligns with your preferences and send you images of our drawings. You can then provide us with the modifications you’d like, and we’ll exchange changes until your home is perfected. While we’ll offer suggestions along the way, the final decisions are always yours to make.
Get a Free Quote
-Main Living Spaces (including porches): $0.80 per square foot
-Basements, Second Floors, Bonus Rooms, Decks, etc.: $0.40 per square foot
-Attached Garages: $0.20 per square foot
For example, if your main living space is 1600 square feet, it will cost $1280. If you add a basement of the same size, it would be an additional $800.
How does Payment Work with a Home Draftsman?
Our payment process is straightforward. We put in a lot of time on each project, and we ask for payments that reflect that effort.
– Initial Consultation: Free
– Starting the Project: A $400 deposit to kick things off
– Ongoing Payments to us as your home Draftsman: Once the plans are finalized and ready for layout, we require 75% of the total cost.
When the house plans are complete, we will email you the final versions once the remaining balance is paid.
